Cumberland Advisors Inc., is a personal service, money management firm headquartered in Florida with clients in approximately 50 states, the District of Columbia, Puerto Rico and several foreign countries. It was originally founded in 1973. As a result of a merger in early 1998, Cumberland became an independently incorporated subsidiary of Ryan Beck and Co. In May 2003, Cumberland was acquired from RBCO by Millennium Bank, PA. In 4/2004 Millennium Bank was acquired by and merged into Harleysville National Bank & Trust Co. Pa. As an independent subsidiary of Harleysville National Bank. Cumberland was acquired from Harleysville by David R. Kotok and Assc. Inc in June, 2005. David R. Kotok and Assc. Inc is wholly owned by David R. Kotok. In March 2008, David R. Kotok & Assc. was merged into Cumberland Advisors. Effective 1/1/09, senior management individually acquired ownership interest in the firm. David Kotok retains approximately 80% ownership. Cumberland supervises approximately $2.8 billion in assets for individuals, institutions, retirement plans, governmental entities and cash management portfolios. Typical individual account sizes are in the single digit million range; some six figure accounts and some eight figure accounts are found among our clients. David R. Kotok co-founded Cumberland Advisors in 1973 and has been its Chief Investment Officer since inception. He holds a B.S. in Economics from The Wharton School of the University of Pennsylvania, an M.S. in Organizational Dynamics from The School of Arts and Sciences at the University of Pennsylvania, and a Masters in Philosophy from the University of Pennsylvania. Mr. Kotok’s articles and financial market commentary have appeared in The New York Times, The Wall Street Journal, Barron's, and other publications. He is a frequent contributor to CNBC programs, including Morning Call, Power Lunch, Kudlow & Company, Squawk on the Street, Squawk Box Asia, and Worldwide Exchange. Mr. Kotok currently serves as a Director and Program Chairman of the Global Interdependence Center (GIC), whose mission is to encourage the expansion of global dialogue and free trade in order to improve cooperation and understanding among nation states, with the goal of reducing international conflicts and improving worldwide living standards. In March, 2008, Mr. Kotok chaired the delegation to Cape Town, South Africa, where they met with African political, financial, and social policy leaders. GIC convened again in Paris in May, in Tallinn, Estonia in August, and in Jerusalem in November 2008. The 2009 conferences will be held in in Philadelphia, France, Zambia and Singapore. Mr. Kotok is also a member of the National Business Economics Issues Council (NBEIC), the National Association for Business Economics (NABE), the Philadelphia Council for Business Economics (PCBE), and the Philadelphia Financial Economists Group (PFEG). Mr. Kotok has served as a Commissioner of the Delaware River Port Authority (DRPA) and on the Treasury Transition Teams for New Jersey Governors Kean and Whitman. He has also served as a board member of the New Jersey Economic Development Authority and as Chairman of the New Jersey Casino Reinvestment Development Authority.
