Dalton, Greiner, Hartman, Maher & Co., LLC History

Dalton, Greiner, Hartman, Maher & Co., LLC (“DGHM”) was established in 1982 as Dillon Read Capital, the money management subsidiary of the investment bank Dillon Read. The firm was organized by Tim Dalton, CFA, Ken Greiner, CFA, Jim Hartman, CFA, and Kevin Maher, CFA, and since inception has focused on quality value domestic equity investments across the market capitalization spectrum. The four founding principals purchased the business from Dillon Read in 1990 to form DGHM, receiving SEC registration in March of that year. DGHM launched its flagship AllCap Value strategy in January 1983, followed by MidCap Value in 1987 and MicroCap Value in 1990. The V2000 SmallCap Value strategy was introduced in 1994. DGHM then extended its product line to include two alternative strategies: UltraValue LP in 1999, and Enhanced Value LP in 2002. The V2000 SmallCap Value and MicroCap Value strategies became available as 40 Act mutual funds in 2010, and 2016, respectively. The AllCap Value and MicroCap Value products were made available to international investors through a UCIT product in 2009 and 2016, respectively. In 2015, DGHM launched the AllCap Value ESG strategy as an extension to the suite of US value strategies offered by the firm. In 1998, DGHM sold a 51% ownership interest to Value Asset Management. In February 2004, Boston Private Financial Holdings, Inc. (BPFH), a bank holding company focusing on wealth management through private banking and investment services, bought an 80% interest in DGHM. The remaining 20% is owned by 13 active DGHM professionals. There is no provision for BPFH to hold more than 80% ownership interest, and DGHM maintains self governance through control of its Board of Directors, with three of five seats internally held. In January 2007, Bruce Geller was named Chief Executive Officer and took over full responsibility for managing the firm. At the same time, Jeff Baker was named Chief Investment Officer and took over responsibility for managing the investment team and process.
