Leuthold Weeden Capital Management History

Leuthold Weeden Capital Management is a Minneapolis-based investment management firm founded in 1987 by industry veteran Steven C. Leuthold. Management-owned and independent, the firm acts as investment adviser for mutual funds and private investment portfolios of $1 million or greater. The firm is recognized for an investment philosophy that stresses quantitative measures of value combined with recognition of fundamental and technical trends. Separate account investment management since 1988 The Leuthold Core Investment Portfolio is a flexible, fully managed portfolio that will consider most asset classes. Available asset classes and normal allocation ranges from 30% to 70% for common stocks and other equity securities, 30% to 70% for bonds and other debt securities, and up to 20% cash. Asset class exposures are determined based on risk and return tradeoffs for each asset class. The Leuthold Select Industries Portfolio is flexible and rotates among attractive industry groups. Industry group rotation and equity selection within those groups drive potential long-term out performance. Our research is concentrated on a universe of more than 125 groups, investing in only those groups with the most favorable characteristics. The investment process is quantitative and disciplined, thus not subject to emotion. The AdvantHedge Portfolio seeks capital appreciation by identifying stocks expected to decline in price, selling those stocks short. Research is concentrated on a universe of over 1000 stocks with minimum market capitalization of $1 billion, and current minimum trading volume of $3 million per day. The investment process is quantitative and disciplined, yet actively managed. The discipline strives to maintain 100% short equity exposure at all times, and leverage is not a feature.
