Kopp Investment Advisors History

Kopp Investment Advisors (KIA) was registered with the SEC as an investment advisor in 1990. In 1997, to facilitate the formation of Kopp Funds, Mr. Kopp organized Kopp Holding Company (KHC), which acquired from Mr. Kopp all of the outstanding stock of KIA. KHC also indirectly controlled Centennial Lakes Capital (CLC), a registered broker/dealer and member of the NASD, which primarily marketed the mutual funds managed by KIA through other broker/dealers. Kopp Emerging Growth Fund was a series of Kopp Funds and a registered investment company advised by KIA and distributed by CLC. In 2003, KIA and CLC were converted into limited liability companies. In 2004, KIA acquired Robinson Capital, known for their large cap investment approach focused on Quality concepts such as Total Quality Management or TQM. As a result, KIA now offers large cap TQM separate accounts in addition to our flagship Emerging Growth Strategy. In 2007, KIA sold Kopp Funds, its retail mutual fund business, to Kansas City, Missouri-based American Century Investments. CLC, which marketed the funds, was discontinued. The sale was completed in the first quarter of 2007, and allows Kopp to focus on its private portfolio management business.
