Cordillera Asset Management History

Cordillera Asset Management was founded in Denver, Colorado, in 1991, and registered as an Investment Advisor with the SEC in March of 1992. The firm began providing small cap growth investment services in May 1992 to a broad range of tax-exempt, institutional clients.

Mr.  Timothy Meisinger

Mr. Meisinger is dedicated to internal management of Cordillera as well as service to the firm's clients. With expertise in computer technology and accounting, he brings crucial talents to the firm. Cordillera has benefited from his administration operations, system and network administration, and bookkeeping since 1997. Mr. Meisinger serves as the firm's Compliance Officer and is a member of Cordillera's Board of Directors. He conducts client reporting and assists with trade reconciliation, in addition to budgeting and accounting on behalf of Cordillera. His range of administrative roles include performing a human resource function, as well as IT tasks. Mr. Meisinger earned his Bachelor of Science in Biological Sciences with Minors in Chemistry and Physics from the University of Denver.

Mr.  Scott Kozney

Mr. Kozney focuses on all aspects of trading and trading related operations for Cordillera. He is responsible for placement, follow-up and execution of all trades for the firm. Mr. Kozney tracks daily portfolio performance relative to the benchmarks and submits reports daily to the investment team. As a member of the investment team, Mr. Kozney attends weekly investment committee meetings and reports directly to Mr. Barela. In addition to trading, Mr. Kozney is responsible for coverage of the energy and transportation sectors. He formulates investment ideas, performs fundamental analysis and due diligence, and recommends buy-sell action on behalf of the energy and transportation segments of the portfolio. He monitors company and industry developments through company management meetings, quarterly earnings conference calls and research conferences. Mr. Kozney earned his Bachelor of Science, summa cum laude, in Finance with a minor in Economics from the University of Colorado. He came to Cordillera in 2002 with over four years of equity trading experience. Mr. Kozney launched his career learning options trading strategies and technical analysis on the floor of the Chicago Mercantile Exchange. Prior to joining Cordillera, he served as an equity trader with Unicom Capital LLC in Denver before joining Cordillera.

Mr. Gonzalez joined Cordillera in May 2006. As Vice President of Sales and Marketing, he is responsible for coordinating all business development efforts and external communications for the firm. Mr. Gonzalez has over 6 years experience in the financial services industry. Previous to Cordillera, he served as the Chief Operating Officer of a Chicago-based asset management firm. Mr. Gonzalez also worked as an Institutional Equities Salesperson at Merrill Lynch and a Financial Analyst at Goldman Sachs, where he was a member of a senior team in the Investment Management Division managing client relationships, developing new buisness and financial modeling. Mr. Gonzalez has a B.A in Economics from Amherst College and an M.B.A. in Finance and Entrepreneurship from the UCLA Anderson School of Management where he received the Robert Toigo Fellowship Award. He also holds the Series 7, 63, and 65 licenses. Mr. Gonzalez serves on the Pension Fund Committee of the New America Alliance and is an active member of the Toigo Foundation Alumni Association.

Mr.  Michael Barela

Mr. Barela co-founded Cordillera Asset Management in 1991. With over ten years at the firm, he serves in two primary functions: Chairman and Portfolio Manager. As Chairman of Cordillera, Mr. Barela sits on the board of directors and coordinates the growth and development of the firm. As Portfolio Manager, Mr. Barela manages all aspects of the firm's Small Cap Growth portfolio. He chairs the Investment Committee, which consists of himself, the firm's fundamental research analysts, and the equity trader. On a day-to-day basis, Mr. Barela oversees the formulation of investment ideas, the implementation of fundamental analysis and due diligence, and the execution of buy-sell decisions. In addition to his leadership responsibilities, Mr. Barela is also responsible for coverage of the financial sector of the portfolio. In that capacity, he monitors company and industry developments through company management meetings, quarterly earnings conference calls, and research conferences. Mr. Barela has over twenty years of experience in the financial services industry including research analysis, stock selection, trading, investment strategy development, and portfolio management. Prior to joining Cordillera Asset Management, Mr. Barela was employed by Morgan Stanley Dean Witter & Company, Dain Rauscher Wessels, and Hanifen Imhoff. He received his Bachelor of Science in Economics from Regis University, in Denver, Colorado. Mr. Barela has been a member of the board of the Latin American Educational Foundation since 1998, including one term as its board president. Mr. Barela has also been a member of the Salazar Family Foundation Board since 2000, supporting public education programs in the Denver area.
